Hoops
On The Rez
Our
first annual "Hoops On The Rez" basketball camp was held in
July of 2004. These basketball camps, put on by former college
level players and current coaches, have enjoyed working with
hundreds of Apache youth throughout the years.
This
camp mixes fun with basketball skills and enjoys the instruction
of Coach Jake Deer, Coach Jon Everingham (of Indiana), Coach
Brian Bechtel (of Indiana), and others from around the country.

below from a few of our student athletes that helped with
the "Hoops On The Rez" basketball camp this year.

"Not
only were we able to teach the Apache Youth basketball, we
were also able to teach them about our Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ. Next year cannot get here fast enough." - Shane
Smarr, Asst. Coach (former player)

"While
on the reservation you have an entire week to devote your
time an effort to others and it is a very moving experience.
The Hoops on the Rez experience has really gotten me motivated
to want to be involved with missions work and continue to
help others with the talent of basketball that God has blessed
me with." - Nick Winkleman, Senior

“Hoops on the Rez was easily
one of the most exciting things I have ever been involved
with.” “I totally and honestly can say that I never had missionary
work in my mind but now from this experience I am really leaning
towards it and wanting to do much more.” “I never thought
that helping someone could be so much fun and adventurous,
just going out not knowing what to expect and just taking
on the challenge” - Ronald Williams, Sophomore

“I love
Hoops on the Rez, because it allows me the opportunity to
use my gifts and talents to further the Kingdom.” - Jake Deer,
Head Coach
